Submissions

From Here is always looking to partner with folks in creating content. Our hope is to be recognized as a space which offers a broad range of perspectives, voices and experiences. Please find the guidelines for submitting to Common Horizon, our print publication exploring Catholic Social Teaching and The Vessel, our community driven newsletter, below. If you are interested in leading a From Here Session or have another idea that aligns with our mission and vision, please email us at fromheremedia@gmail.com.

 Submission Requirements: COMMON HORIZON

 

  • Common Horizon accepts original poems, prayers, and reflection pieces (please obtain email permission to submit anything that is not in one of these categories)

    • All submissions must be within the teaching of the Catholic Church

    • Word count for poems, prayers or short pieces should not exceed 700 words

    • All other pieces should not exceed 1500 words

    • An email receipt of submission will be sent within 48 hours.

    • Pieces are subject to the editing process. Contributors are required to go through at least one round of content edits.

    • Strong pieces are clear, concise, well-written, tie clearly into the theme, and complement other pieces well.

  • Artists who are interested in submitting either the cover art or the patron saint of the issue should FIRST contact From Here at fromheremedia@gmail.com with a brief description of idea for project. Please do not submit a piece without first being commissioned.

    Once commissioned, artists submit 6x9 digital pieces.

  • Common Horizon pays $50 for short poems, prayers, or pieces under 700 words and $85 for pieces 700-1500 words

    Cover Art and Patron Saint artists will be paid commensurate with experience and commission fees

  • From Here is currently accepting submissions for Volume 2, Issue 5. This Issue will explore the fifth theme of Catholic Social Teaching: The Dignity of Work and the Rights of Workers. Submission deadline for this Issue is March 1st, 2023 at 11 pm CST. Email piece with subject line CH 2 VOL 5 to fromheremedia@gmail.com. Writers are encouraged to pray through information at the USCCB site on this theme.

  • Acceptance emails will contain additional information regarding deadlines, contracts, and check-ins with editor

 

SUBMISSION REQUIREMENTS: THE VESSEL NEWSLETTER

To contribute to our bi-monthly communal newsletter, simply fill out the form below. Once you submit the form, we will contact you via email to give you deadlines and the steps to send in your offering! Be sure to indicate which section or sections you’d like to be a part in the form:

GREET SECTION

This section contains a picture of one beautiful member of the Universal Catholic Church along with their answers to these sentence starters:

I love ______.

I hope _______.

I could do without _________.

Right now my Catholic faith feels like ___________.

You could pray for me by praying for ___________.

GROW SECTION

This section is a short collection (3 things only each time) of things encouraging folks in their faith journey right now. It could be a scripture verse, a talk, a social media post, a song, a podcast. All that is needed to submit to the GROW section is a link to the recommendation and a short 1-2 sentence blurb as to why it is encouraging you.

PRAY SECTION

This section is a list of prayer intentions that we ask The Vessel community to pray for. We list first names only, but are happy to write first initials or special intention.

SHARE SECTION

This section is where we celebrate and stand in awe of one another. No likes, comments, or algorithms—just sharing and receiving. Folks can share written pieces, poems, art, a picture of a clean closet, a garden—anything that you want to bring to the community.
